Aerosmith Star Joe Perry Hospitalized After Performing With Billy Joel

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, 68, has been hospitalized after performing with Billy Joel at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, has confirmed.

Perry’s manager, Paul Geary, emailed Radar about the rock and roll icon on Sunday, writing, “He had just walked off stage after performing with Billy Joel last night at MSG in NY, and immediately complained of shortness of breath. The in-house EMTs connected an oxygen tank and decided to take him to the hospital. He’s awake and alert this morning.”

Steven Tyler‘s beloved bandmate Perry’s health crisis happened after his concert appearance with fellow rocker Joel, 69, but the “Just The Way You Are” singer was apparently unaware of the emergency.

Onlookers reportedly told a website that Perry had just finished performing the classic Aerosmith song “Walk This Way” with Joel on stage and went back to his dressing room.

A source told the website that after that, Perry collapsed and “looked terrible.”

Paramedics rushed to the scene and worked on Perry for around 40 minutes in his dressing room, putting a tracheal tube down his throat to clear the airway, the site reported.

According to the report, there was panic in the rock and roll star’s dressing room.

But now, his rep tells Radar that Perry is awake and alert and more information will be provided soon.

Perry is the lead guitarist, backing and occasional lead vocalist, and contributing songwriter for Aerosmith.

He had recently announced a new single and solo tour and Aerosmith has also planned a Las Vegas residency for next year.

As Radar reported, in 2016 , Perry also collapsed, becoming ill before a performance by the Hollywood Vampires, a band featuring Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper. EMTs on site revived Perry and immediately transported him to the hospital in that incident.

Last year, Aerosmith’s frontman Tyler, now 70, suffered an unexpected seizure while on tour in South America. The band had to cancel the remainder of their show while Tyler flew back to the U.S. to get treated.
